Website Cookie - Consent Banners
Here’s why having a cookie consent banner on your website is not just a nice-to-have, but essential.

Why Your Travel Website Should Have a Cookie Consent Banner
And the Travelgenix-recommended tool to make it easy
When someone visits your travel website, it’s likely that cookies are being used behind the scenes. These small files help with things like remembering preferences, tracking booking sessions, and improving the overall user experience. But they also come with a responsibility - especially if your visitors are based in the UK or Europe.
Here’s why having a cookie consent banner on your website is not just a nice-to-have, but essential.
Why Cookie Consent Matters
It’s a Legal Requirement
Under the UK GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive (sometimes called the “cookie law”), you must inform visitors if your website uses non-essential cookies—such as tracking or marketing cookies—and get their consent before they’re set. Failing to do this can lead to fines or complaints.
It Builds Trust with Visitors
People are more aware of their online privacy than ever. A clear cookie banner shows your customers you respect their data and are transparent about how it’s used.
It Can Improve Your Website’s Reputation
A professional-looking cookie banner gives your website a polished, trustworthy feel. It’s one more way to show your travel brand takes customer care seriously.
Our Recommended Tool: CookieScript
At Travelgenix, we recommend using Cookie-Script.com to handle cookie consent on your website. We’ve tested it thoroughly and found it works perfectly with our booking platform, and they even have a FREE plan available to get you started.
Why We Recommend Cookie-Script:
✅ Fully compatible with Travelgenix sites and booking widgets
✅ Easy setup with no coding knowledge needed
✅ Customisable to match your website branding
✅ Auto-blocks cookies until users give consent
✅ Supports multiple languages and geo-targeting
✅ Keeps you compliant with GDPR, UK privacy laws, and more
How to Get Started
- Sign up at cookie-script.com
- Follow their guided setup to create your cookie banner
- Their system will auto-scan your website and suggest the cookies it finds and whether it deems them necessary or not to run functionality - please note that it won't automatically pick up the cookies from our booking platform so you will need to add some manually (see the below Adding Manual Cookies section for more information) - this part is important and must be completed, else you may find that some of the functionality on your website/our widgets will not work as intended.
- Add the code snippet they give you into the header of your Travelgenix website (our support team can help if you’re not sure how)
That’s it! You’ll be protecting your visitors’ privacy - and your business - in just a few simple steps.
IMPORTANT: Adding Manual Cookies
Please note, that you must add the following manual cookies. If you skip this part, you may find that a lot of our booking and login functionality will not function as intended.
To manually add cookie settings into your Cookie-Scripe account (you will need to do this to add the Travelgenix cookies in so that your booking funcationality works correctly), first you will need to go into the Cookies tab in your settings:

Click on the Add new cookie button:

You should then see this entry field where you enter the information about the cookie you want to add to their list. You will need to add the cookies in the table below into their list (you can add others as required, depending on what third-party services you may use on your website, but they are outside of the scope of this support article).

Please ensure you add all of the following cookies into your account. The Cookie domain setting will be the domain name of your website and will be the same for all of the cookies you are adding here, so for example, if your website address is https://www.traveldemo.site/ then you will need to add www.traveldemo.site into the Cookie domain setting (don't add the https:// or any / into this field):

Important (Choice of Cookie Consent Provider)
You have a choice to use other cookie consent platforms, however we have tested the Cookie-Script platform and, using the recommended settings above, it should work seamlessly with our booking platform and websites. If you choose to use other cookie consent platforms, they should all offer the ability to set up custom cookies as above, but we are unable to assist you if you experience problems with our booking platform, especially if they implement other blocking systems.
