Introduction

The pricing rules engine gives you a simple and flexible way to create profit rules for the products you sell on your website.
Whether that's:
- Creating a standard mark-up on all products across your website
- Creating a special offer on popular products
- Changing the profit levels dependant on the booking & travel "windows"
- Changing the pricing based on what day of the week it is
How do Travelgenix rules work?
Your Travelgenix solution requires an integration with third party suppliers, who will generate the travel products that are sold on your website (E.g. Flights, hotel rooms, attractions etc)
These suppliers will automatically deliver a price for these products. You will need to create a rule that adds $X or X% to that price, in order to make a profit on that sale.
E.g.
The supplier provides a hotel room for $100 per night, which equals $700 for a 7 night stay.
If no rules are created, the end user will see that hotel for $700 for a 7 night stay on your website.
If you create a 10% rule, the end user will see that hotel for $770 for a 7 night stay on your website ($700+10% = $770). The additional $70 being your profit.
Create a new rule

2. You will then be presented with the rule set up page, which lets you configure the logic for this rule (E.g. When to activate, how much mark-up, what travel dates, what days of the week etc). Some options will reveal additional settings to configure as they are selected.

- Pricing Rule Name - A unique name to identify this specific rule. This is for internal use only and does not display to the end user.
- Priority - An important piece of logic that dictates the priority of a rule applying to a price. 1 is the highest priority and 100 is the lowest priority. If you have two rules applying to a supplier price, the higher priority will apply to the supplier price first, and the lower priority rule will apply to the supplier price + the higher priority rule.
- Here's an equation that demonstrates the priority logic:
- (((Supplier price) + Priority 1 Rule ) + Priority 2 Rule)=Display price to the end user
- Example: (((Supplier price $100) + Priority 1 Rule 10% Increase ) + Priority 2 Rule $10 increase) = $120 display price (((100)+10%)+10)
- If two or more rules of the same priority apply to a supplier price, the one created earlier will apply first, and the one(s) created later will apply second.
- Example: (((Supplier price $100) + Priority 1 Rule 10% Increase ) + Priority 1 Rule $5 increase) = $115 display price (((100)+10%)+5)
- Enable Rule - This toggles the rule on or off. When a rule is toggled off, it will appear below enabled rules in the main rules dashboard.
- Modifier Type - This lets you configure the type of mark-up to the supplier price:
- Fixed - Modify the supplier price by a fixed value (Calculated in the default currency of your Travelgenix solution) E.g. Add $10 to all products
- Percentage - Modify the supplier price by a percentage E.g. Add 10% to all products
- Modifier Value - The value of the price modifier and whether to increase or decrease a supplier price
- Modifier Applies To - Configure if the rule applies to the whole booking, or to each passenger in the booking. Important: The rule is calculated differently for different modifiers:
- Booking - The rule is applied to the total value of the product.
- Passenger - TBC
- Days before travel - Apply this rule if the the booking is X days away from the date of travel. Useful for adding a "last minute" premium or discount. (Note: If you select "10" then the logic will only apply if the booking is made exactly 10 days in advance. It will not be "10 days or less". To achieve 10 days or less, you would need to select 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.)
- Passenger Allocation - Apply this rule to specific passenger combinations (Useful for two adults, two children combinations). Leaving this option blank will apply to any passenger combination.
- Booking Dates - Configure when this rule will apply, based on when the customer makes the booking. Often known as the "Booking window". Configure it to apply to specific days of the week too.
- Tip: Select a date far into the future to let this apply for the long term
- Travel Dates - Configure when this rule will apply, based on when the customer will travel. Often known as the "Travel window". Configure it to apply to specific days of the week too.

- Product Types - By default, the rule will be applied to all products. This section allows you to create a more granular rule, that only applies to certain types of products. Some product types will reveal additional configuration options

- Suppliers - Select which suppliers this rule should apply to
- Supplier codes - Select which supplier codes this rule should apply to (Typically if you have more than one rate from a single supplier)
- Property types - Select which property types this rule should apply to
- Country - Select which country this rule should apply to
- Ratings - Select which property ratings this rule should apply to
- Names - Configure if this rule should apply, based on the name of the property
- Chains - Configure if this rule should apply, based on the name of the property chain
- Locations - Configure if this rule should apply, based on the name of the destination location
- Transfers
- Suppliers - Select which suppliers this rule should apply to
- Transfer types - Select which type of transfer this rule should apply to
- Transfer durations - Select how this rule should apply, based on the duration (in minutes) of the transfer
- Country - Select which country this rule should apply to
- Locations - Configure if this rule should apply, based on the name of the destination location
- Transfer Companies - Configure if this rule should apply, based on the name of the transfer company
- Car Rental
- Suppliers - Select which suppliers this rule should apply to
- Rental Operators - Select which rental operators this rule should apply to
- Transmissions - Select if this rule should apply, based on the transmission of the vehicle (Manual, automatic etc)
- Class Codes - Select if this rules should apply based on the class code
- SIPP Codes - Select if this rules should apply based on the SIPP code
- Rental Duration - Select if this rule should apply based on the duration of the vehicle hire
- Location Match Types - Select if this rule should apply based on the location match type (E.g. On/Off airport, any location)
- Country - Select which country this rule should apply to
- Locations - Configure if this rule should apply, based on the name of the destination location
- Package Names - Configure if this rule should apply, based on the name of the car rental package
- Flights
- Suppliers - Select which suppliers this rule should apply to
- Airline Carrier Codes - Select which airlines this rule should apply to
- Cabin Class - Select if this rule should apply based on cabin class
- Fare Types - Select if this rule should apply based on fare type
- Flight Route - Apply the rule based on where the origin and destination airports are
- Fare Bases - Configure if this rule should apply, based on the name of the fare base
- Ticket Attractions
- Suppliers - Select which suppliers this rule should apply to
- Ticket Types - Select which types of attraction tickets this rule should apply to (E.g. Theatre, Exhibition, Sport etc)
- Country - Select which country this rule should apply to
- Locations - Configure if this rule should apply, based on the name of the destination location
- Airport Extras
- Suppliers - Select which suppliers this rule should apply to
- Airport Extra Types - Select which extras this profit rule should apply to
- Airports - Select which airports this rule should apply to
- Search Types - Rules can apply, based on how the end-user discovers a product/s. (E.g. Create rules for flights/airlines that are only available as part of a dynamic package combination). Selecting the search type, will mean this rule will only apply if the end-user discovers a product/s as a result of that specific search type.
Once you have configured the rule, click "Save" and the rule will be saved to your rules dashboard.
If you enabled "Product Types" a pop up may appear, prompting you to configure the additional product settings. If you don't want to, the rule will apply to everything within that product type and your changes will be saved.
Good to know:
It may take 2-3 minutes for the rule to apply to the products on your website. Please wait a few minutes and then do a hard refresh in your browser to ensure the rule has been applied correctly.
Edit a rule
Visit Pricing Rules > Identify the rule you wish to edit > Click the pencil icon > Edit the rule > Save
Enable/Disable a rule
Visit Pricing Rules > Identify the rule you wish to edit > Click the pencil icon > Enable Rule on or off > Save
Delete a rule
Visit Pricing Rules > Identify the rule you wish to delete > Click the trash can icon > A pop up will appear, click the "Delete" button > The rule has now been deleted
